Considering Body Contouring in NYC? Choose a Qualified Plastic Surgeon

Body Contouring NYCBody contouring in NYC involves a variety of procedures to reshape and improve a person’s appearance. More and more men and women are taking advantage of the advancements in technology to achieve the transformation they always dreamt about. Now a vast majority of prospective patients look online to find a plastic surgeon. However, a new study cautions people from choosing a surgeon based on impressive before and after photos on Instagram. Conducted by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the study found that very few people posting surgery ads and using plastic surgery-related hashtags on Instagram are, in fact, well-qualified reputable cosmetic-surgery providers.

According to the Fox News report on the study’s findings, those who market plastic surgery on Instagram could be a hair stylist, a barber or an emergency room (ER) physician offering cosmetic surgery on the side. The study points out that “more than four of five top Instagram posts with plastic surgery-related hashtags come from providers who aren’t eligible for membership”.

The researchers investigated Instagram posts because it is a uniquely visual social media channel, and plastic surgery is a uniquely visual medical specialty. They reviewed more than 1.7 million Instagram posts and collected the nine most popular posts for each procedure hashtags (that included #plasticsurgery, #facelift, #cosmeticsurgery, #breastlift, #boobjob, #rhinoplasty, #brazilianbuttlift, #tummytuck and #liposuction), and checked the source for each post. Procedures such as Brazilian butt lift NYC, tummy tuck and liposuction are so popular that people keep searching for that procedure on this platform. The researchers found that two-thirds of the top posts promoted the person’s cosmetic surgery practice, as opposed to educating the public about plastic surgery. According to the study, only 17.8% of the posts came from board-certified plastic surgeons.

The researchers found that about 26 percent of top Instagram plastic surgery related posts are from physicians in other specialties, such as gynecologists, dermatologists, general surgeons, family doctors, ear-nose-throat doctors, including one from an ER doctor. The report noted that these providers market themselves as cosmetic surgeons, even though they are not specially trained in plastic surgery. This is very dangerous for the patient, notes one of the researchers.

The dangers of having cosmetic surgery performed by an unqualified person are not limited to a bad tummy tuck or ugly scars, and there have been many instances of botched up procedures that proved fatal.

People should educate themselves about patient safety and learn how to smart choices not only about their surgeon but also the facilities where the procedure will be performed. Hospitals have very stringent credentialing standards. ASAPS president Dr. Clyde Ishii recommends that before undergoing a procedure, patients need to ask their provider if he or she is credentialed to perform that procedure in a hospital. Patients should also ensure that the professional is qualified and experienced. Browsing through before-and-after photos is a great way to understand the kinds of improvements that surgical and minimally-invasive procedures can bring about.

Many people view cosmetic surgery as non-serious and harmless. Dr Ishii says that consumers have to understand that cosmetic surgery is real surgery, with real complications. So before undergoing a procedure, make sure that you choose a plastic surgeon who is well trained and experienced in that procedure.

A report published last year came out strongly against plastic surgeons who post unprofessional videos and images with entertainment, rather than education, in mind. Reliable plastic surgeons will adhere to the principles of medical ethics while using social media and prioritize decisions that will not harm patients.

If you are considering body contouring in NYC, do your research well. There many safe ways to find a surgeon. If you do use Instagram filters, make sure that the surgeon you choose is qualified to perform your procedure. Choosing an AAAASF-accredited practice is important as this would ensure adherence to strict national standards for equipment, operating room safety, personnel and surgeon credentials.

Surgical versus Minimally-invasive Facelift Procedures

Facial aging occurs due to skin changes and changes in the deeper soft tissues of the face. Natural aging, skin type, gravity, sun exposure and other environmental aspects, facial movement, and routine skin care are among the many factors that cause folds, wrinkles, lines and creases to form on the face. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, a facelift in NYC can address most of these concerns.

Facelift ProceduresFacelift surgery can address mid-face sagging, creases below the lower eyelids, creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth, facial fat, jowls and double chin. Traditional facelifts involve the use of various surgical techniques to improve the visible signs of aging in the face and neck. A deep plane lift reshapes the entire face the neck, brow and both upper and lower eyelids.

The incision typically begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be sculpted or grafts placed in areas with volume loss, such as the cheeks, under-eye areas and lips. The procedure also involves repositioning of the facial fat pads and sometimes, lifting of the deeper layers of the face, and the muscles. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is redraped over the uplifted contours. Another incision under the chin may be needed to improve aging concerns in the neck. The incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives.

Today, conventional facelift surgery is competing with minimally-invasive techniques. According to a recent report published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), procedures such as the mini facelift, S-lift, neck lift, or endoscopic facelift have attracted the interest of patients who may have previously been intimidated by the concept of a surgical cosmetic procedure. For instance, the short scar face lift or mini facelift which involves a only short incision below and behind the ear can improve the lower portion of the face, and is ideal for younger patients with mild to moderate aging. In the S-lift, a small skin flat is raised, which allows for a small elevation of the face. A mid-face lift is also a minimally-invasive procedure that improves the area beginning below the eye to the lower cheek area, including nasolabial folds. A neck lift is performed using extremely small incisions, usually placed discreetly behind the ears and under the chin. The modern facelift is therefore less intimidating for patients and can provide very natural-looking results when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon.

Unlike invasive surgery, modern facelift techniques are subtle and can be customized to suit the needs of the individual patient. Concerns relating to skin tone and texture imperfections can be addressed by nonsurgical procedures such as Botox, dermal fillers and laser resurfacing. Plastic surgeons may combine a facelift with laser treatment to enhance outcomes.

NYC plastic surgeons also offer non-invasive facial rejuvenation options such as laser lift, Kybella and CoolSculpting. With no extensive incisions, stitches or scars, the laser lift is performed using the PrecisionTx laser. Kybella NYC is an injectable that is FDA-approved for treating a double chin. It eliminates the fat and improves definition in the neck and jaw line. The FDA approved CoolSculpting procedure freezes fat cells away and includes a special CoolMini applicator to treat under-the-chin fat.

Each individual may have distinct concerns and procedural steps can vary significantly from patient to patient. However, as the ASPS report notes, the conventional facelift or rhytidectomy surgery is still the most effective option for longer term improvements in age-related changes to the skin, fat and other tissue in the face and neck.

Importance of a Proper Diet Before and After Tummy Tuck

Tummy TuckTummy tuck in NYC is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure that addresses excess fat and sagging skin which diet and exercises cannot resolve. For smooth recovery from tummy tuck surgery, patients need to carefully follow all the pre- and post-operative care instructions prescribed by their surgeon. One of the first steps in preparing for this procedure is maintaining a healthy diet. A proactive approach to recovery with foods to help the body heal is crucial to smooth recovery after a tummy tuck. Good nutrition will boost the immune system, promote overall health, and instill good food habits in patients.

Candidates would be required to shed excess weight in order to become eligible for the procedure. A light diet composed of healthy foods would be the right choice to achieve this goal. The idea behind proper nutrition is to make healing easier. Here are some dietary tips for tummy tuck candidates:

  • Protein is one of the most important nutrients for healing. Patients should increase intake of lean protein in their diet by including chicken, fish, eggs, yogurt, and light cheese. These protein-rich foods will support better and faster healing. They should also include lots of vitamin-rich foods, vegetables, and fruits to improve overall health.
  • It is best to stick to low sodium foods before surgery. Salty and junk foods do not have any beneficial nutrients that the body needs to heal.
  • Zinc is important for wound healing. Zinc is found in grains, nuts, and many types of meat. It helps your body build new cells and will promote recovery after surgery.
  • Consuming plenty of fruit and vegetables is important as these would provide a variety of vitamins and nutrients such as fiber and antioxidants. This is necessary for the body to continue functioning normally and fight against infection.
  • Patients are advised to eat dark leafy greens along with pineapple and vitamin C-rich foods, and to avoid foods that may cause gas such as cabbage and beans.
  • Surgeons advise patients to avoid vitamin E supplements for some time before and after tummy tuck surgery. This is because vitamin E can cause complications during recovery.
  • Avoiding foods that contain caffeine and alcohol prior to surgery is also recommended as it can interfere with the anesthesia and other drugs that are prescribed by the surgeon.
  • Patients will also be advised on water consumption after tummy tuck surgery. Drinking sufficient amounts of water is critical to maintain good oxygenation in bloodstream, which will promote healing and help in all aspects of recovery.

Patients are also advised to avoid painkillers and medications that have aspirin as they can thin the blood and increase bleeding.

To ensure long-lasting results, healthy habits should be started before the treatment. Though patients are advised to shed their excess weight in order to be a candidate for the procedure, going in for a crash diet or extreme weight loss before a tummy tuck is not advised. These regimens will deprive the body of nutrients that are essential for healing.

Like pre surgery there certain foods that has to be included in your diet after surgery. The aim of a post-surgery diet is to promote healing, avoid infection, and reduce surgical side effects. As such, most everything you should eat before and after plastic surgery will be the same. While tummy tuck can provide dramatic results, future weight gain can alter the results. It is believed that patients who choose a balanced and proper diet will be more comfortable with continuing the healthy eating habits during the recovery and beyond. This will help to extend the results of tummy tuck for many years to come.

Leading AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practices offer tummy tuck in NYC. The experience and skill of the surgeon matters a lot when it comes to safe treatment and optimal outcomes. A reliable surgeon will also provide proper guidance on pre- and post- operative preparations, including dietary recommendations. Following your surgeon’s advice will reduce risks of infection and other complications and help in smooth recovery after surgery.

The Cosmetic Surgery Consultation – What Patients Should Look For

Cosmetic SurgeryAn increasing number of men and women are opting to have body contouring in NYC to shape and tone their physique. One of the first steps towards achieving optimal results is a smooth consultation experience. This is important from the physician’s point of view too. A Dermatology Times article notes that the aesthetic consult is among the first and most pivotal steps to securing new business in the cosmetic practice. For the patient, the consultation provides the opportunity to evaluate potential surgeons and find one who is a qualified to perform the procedure safely and effectively. The surgeon should be able to understand the patient’s concerns and expectations, explain the procedure options, and help the patient take an informed decision.

Here are some things you should look for at your plastic surgery consultation:

  • A reliable cosmetic surgeon will be ready to answer your questions about his or her training, board certification, and experience performing the procedure you are interested in. You can ask about the surgeries the surgeon has performed, about the post-surgical care you will receive, and so on.
  • Make sure that your procedure will be performed in an AAAASF-accredited surgical suite. Accredited practices have the high standards for safety, cleanliness, administration, and emergency readiness.
  • A reliable cosmetic surgeon will be ready to discuss the patient’s concerns, ideas, and expectations. You should be able to present these things clearly and be comfortable discussing them with the surgeon.
  • Ask for a detailed explanation of your options, including procedure options, risks, benefits, and costs. A good surgeon will put your health, well-being and safety first and will not force you into making a decision during the consultation.
  • Both the patient and the surgeon need to be honest, concerned and care about building trust. Reliable surgeons will fully explain what your procedure involves. They will take time to explain its benefits and risks as well as what you should expect during recovery.
  • Look at before and after pictures of the surgeon’s patients. Most practices put only a few images on their website, and you should ask for access to more during your consultation. Examine the results of patients that have concerns and goals that are similar to yours. This will give you an idea about the surgeon’s skill and aesthetic approach and help you understand if they can provide the kind of results that you are looking for.
  • Make sure the staff at the practice is friendly, accommodating and professional. This is important for a pleasant cosmetic surgery experience – right from your initial consult to the end of the treatment and through recovery. All areas of the practice should be clean and inviting.

Going by these tips can help you choose the right surgeon for body sculpting in New York City.

Pre- and Post-operative Care for BodyTite Liposuction

BodyTite LiposuctionBodyTite NYC is a safe, minimally-invasive cosmetic surgical procedure that offers efficient removal of stubborn fat along with superior skin tightening effects. It works on radiofrequency energy to precisely target and melt fat deposits so that they can be easily removed. One of the main concerns among patients is what they can do before and after surgery to promote proper healing and recovery. When it comes to maximizing your BodyTite liposuction results, the golden rule is to diligently follow your plastic surgeon’s pre- and post-operative instructions.

BodyTite radio frequency-assisted lipolysis (RFAL) liquefies subcutaneous fat, coagulates the blood vessels, and tightens the skin in a single process. This breakthrough remodeling procedure is carried out under local anesthesia and could be the ideal option for men and women who don’t want to go under the knife to achieve their body contouring goals. A healthy person with unwanted fat deposits but good skin quality may experience good skin contraction after the procedure.

Although bruising and swelling is inevitable even with BodyTite as in many other minimally-invasive cosmetic surgical procedures, there are many things that can be done to minimize these effects. With proper care, most patients experience fast recovery and return to normal activities within days. Here are some things to know about preparing for BodyTite liposuction:

  • BodyTite is an ideal choice for healthy people who are close to their ideal weight. You should be at your ideal weight to experience good results.
  • Discuss any supplements or medications you take with your surgeon and follow his/her advice on them.
  • Medications that contain ibuprofen or aspirin should be avoided to minimize the risk of bruising and swelling since they affect the blood’s clotting mechanism.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home after the procedure and if needed, arrange for someone to stay with you for few days and help with household chores.

Avoid alcohol and quit smoking at least two weeks before and until 2 weeks after surgery, or else it can affect the healing process.

  • Avoid overexposure to the sun before the procedure
  • If you develop a cold or infection prior to the procedure, inform your surgeon as the surgery may need to be postponed.
  • Inform your surgeon about any allergies that you have.
  • Your surgeon will decide whether preliminary examinations are necessary, such as blood tests, an electrocardiogram, or x-rays of the lungs. These tests should be performed several weeks before the procedure.

Patients are also advised to follow post-operative care tips so as to promote smooth healing and recovery. Going by these tips will provide better results after your treatment:

  • Patients are advised to avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until healing is complete. Most return to normal activities within a few days.
  • Lymphatic massage may help promote healing and enhance the appearance of skin around the treatment area.
  • Wearing a compression garment is a must for at least one week after the surgery.
  • If needed, take the painkillers that your surgeon prescribes to alleviate post-procedural pain or discomfort.
  • Keep your follow-up appointments.
  • If you notice anything unusual at the treatment site or during the healing process, contact your surgeon immediately.

Results are patient specific and depend on the treatment area, amount of fat removed, and other individual considerations. Larger areas will require a longer recovery time. Initial results can be seen immediately after the procedure and the best results are usually seen after 6-12 weeks. Choosing an expert plastic surgeon is also critical to make BodyTite NYC a safe, memorable, and rewarding experience.

Tummy Tuck Could Address Back Pain and Urinary Incontinence, finds Study

Tummy TuckGetting a tummy tuck in New York City is an ideal option when diet and exercise cannot address sagging skin in the stomach area caused by factors such as excessive loss, pregnancy or genetics. A new study published in the March issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the official medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) found that tummy tuck surgery can reduce back pain and incontinence after childbearing.

Tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty involves removing excess fat and skin to improve abdominal contour when diet and exercise fail to provide the desired outcomes. According to researchers, a tummy tuck is more than a cosmetic procedure as it can improve back pain and urinary incontinence, the two most common physical complaints by women after labor and delivery. In fact, this cosmetic procedure is a key component of a “mommy makeover”, a slew of procedures designed to restore the shape of a woman’s body after childbearing.

The study’s participants were 214 women undergoing abdominoplasty with repair of the abdominal muscles at nine Australian plastic surgery centers. They were around 42 years old with an average of 2.5 deliveries. The women were asked to rate their disability from back pain and urinary incontinence before and after surgery. Preoperatively, about 51 percent of women reported moderate to severe disability from back pain, while 42.5 percent said urinary incontinence was a “significant concern”. The study found that:

  • Scores for back pain continued to improve from six weeks to six months after abdominoplasty
  • After six months, only nine percent of patients still had moderate disability from back pain.
  • Urinary incontinence did not improve after six weeks, but remained a significant problem for less than two percent of women.
  • Though the women underwent abdominoplasty surgery using different techniques, the improvements in back pain and incontinence were similar regardless of the technique used.

Abdominoplasty has proven functional as well as cosmetic benefits. The functional improvements involve restoration of strength and stability in the abdominal and pelvic region as the operation includes repair of the abdominal muscle separation that can occur after pregnancy. The aesthetic benefits are a flatter, firmer abdominal shape that is more proportionate with the patient’s body type and weight. By reducing common post-childbirth concerns like back pain and incontinence, a tummy tuck improves quality of life for women.

According to the latest annual statistics from the ASPS, nearly 129,753 tummy tuck procedures were performed in the United States in 2017, up by 2000 procedures from 2016. Though abdominoplasty had dropped out of the top five most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in 2016, it returned to this coveted list in 2017.

A complete abdominoplasty involves long incisions to remove skin and fat, general anesthesia, suturing of the abdominal muscles, and long recovery times. Expert NYC plastic surgeons also offer liposuction-only abdominoplasty. This minimally-invasive tummy tuck in NYC is an ideal option for patients who have good skin and muscle tone, and without issues like excess skin in the midsection or loose abdominal muscles. It is performed using advanced liposuction devices such as Smartlipo, BodyTite and Vaserlipo and offers benefits such as short downtime, minimal postsurgical trauma, minimal scarring and quick recovery.

Get a Brazilian Butt Lift in NYC for Firm, Shapely Buttocks

The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) has emerged as one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States. It allows women to improve the shape and size of the buttocks using their own fat. Women opting to have a Brazilian butt lift in NYC should ensure that the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon.

Brazilian butt augmentation is a combination of liposuction and fat grafting and results in youthful, perky, firm buttocks and a more sensual body profile. It is a great option for those who want to avoid the use of implants and are looking for a subtle enhancement than just an increase in volume.

Many women now prefer Brazilian butt augmentation over implants as it can create results that are natural looking. The procedure involves two components – liposuction and fat grafting. The first is fat removal, where advanced liposuction techniques are used to extract the needed fat from the body areas such as the flanks, stomach, and thighs. In second step, the fat tissues are processed and injected into the buttocks to enhance the shape and appearance of the buttocks. A skilled surgeon can shape the back area just under the curvature of the top of the buttocks in such as way that it decreases waist size and improves the projection of the buttocks even before the fat is injected. With no implant- related risks and minimal bruising and other side effects, the procedure offers attractive results in minimal downtime.

To better understand the steps involved in BBL surgery performed under local anesthesia, watch this video of the procedure performed by Dr. Spero J Theodorou of bodySCULPT®, a leading plastic surgery practice in NYC.

Ideal candidates for BBL are those who are in good general health and have enough fat and an appropriate body type to allow sufficient fat harvesting, in order to produce an effective change to the buttocks during fat transfer. Patients should discuss their goals in person at their consultation with the plastic surgeon.

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and usually requires only 36 hours of recuperation regardless of the day of the week. Final results are usually seen approximately 6 months after the treatment and full recovery depends on how well patients follow their surgeon’s aftercare instructions. Successful surgery will provide you with a perkier and rounder butt and redefine overall body appearance. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for long-lasting results.

bodySCULPT® offers BBL as a weekend procedure, an ideal option for women with busy work schedules.

What Women Need to Know about Breast Implants Longevity

Breast ImplantsThe latest plastic surgery procedural statistics released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) shows that breast augmentation topped the list in 2017 with 300, 378 procedures, up 3 percent from 2016. Even as the popularity of the procedure soars, Manhattan breast augmentation specialists report that one of the main concerns women have relates to how long their breast implants will last.

The question about the longevity of breast implants arises in women’s minds because of a 2011 report by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the safety of silicone implants which mentioned that one out of five patients would need a replacement or revision after 10 years. So do women really need to change their implants after a decade? An ASPS report published in January 2018 says that the FDA statistics should put women’s minds at ease rather than cause alarm as it means that while “one out of five patients need a replacement or revision after 10 years that means four in five are still enjoying the benefits of their implants 10 years after receiving them”.

The idea that they may be a breast lift or an implant replacement discourages many women from getting a procedure. It gives rise to concerns about long-term costs and future surgeries. However, as the ASPS points out, the FDA’s data shouldn’t be a cause for concern as:

  • While breast implants may not be lifetime devices, they are designed to be long lasting and safe.
  • Most revisions or replacements relate to change in size or further improvements
  • Deflation or rupture of the implant occur only rarely and affect only about 3% of implants.

Today’s fourth- and fifth-generation Breast implants are safe and you can expect lasting outcomes when your procedure is performed by an experienced plastic surgeon. The reasons follow-up procedure may be needed after breast implant surgery are:

  • Deflation or rupture: According to the ASPS, saline and silicone implants rupture or deflate very rarely. However, revision surgery will be needed if this occurs. While saline is sterile, silicone gel can leak into the breast tissue or even other parts of the body. Moreover, in a conventional silicone gel implant, leaks involve “silent rupture” and can be detected only by an MRI scan. On the other hand, with the newer IDEAL implants, women can detect rupture by simply looking in the mirror.
  • Development of capsule contracture: If scar tissue forms around the breast, it can harden and change position and/or shape. In this case, this issue can be addressed by replacing the implant.
  • Aging: Many patients choose to replace their implants because of the natural effects of aging such as increased skin laxity, changes in body weight, and hormone shifts. These can affect the appearance of breasts that have undergone augmentation.
  • Dissatisfaction with initial results: Women may opt for revision surgery if they are not satisfied with the results that the plastic surgeon provided.
  • Change in breast size: Women may desire a change in their breast size well after their initial procedure due to a new trend or implant. While patients previously chose large, dramatic-looking breast implants, today, many women are requesting small size implants that are natural-looking and do not appear surgically enhanced. When a change in size is required, replacement or revision is an unavoidable procedure.

Women should do their research as there are many things they need to understand before going ahead with breast implant surgery. Those who have breast augmentation need to be prepared for the follow up surgery in future so that they won’t be disheartened if a revision or replacement is needed, which is a rare thing to happen. No medical device can be expected to last for lifetime, and as you age, your body will change and anatomical changes can occur which may lead to the need for additional surgery for a replacement or revision implant surgery.

If you are considering breast augmentation in Manhattan, find an AAAASF accredited plastic surgery practice with surgeons who are experts in the procedure. Reliable surgeons offer a variety of implants and use advanced techniques to provide safe treatment and attractive outcomes.

BodyTite Vs Traditional Liposuction: Learn the Difference

BodyTite LiposuctionLiposuction is a widely accepted cosmetic surgical procedure to get rid of unwanted fat which refuses to go away even with dieting and exercise. It has also found use in treating lymphedema in cancer patients. There are different types of techniques such as traditional invasive liposuction surgery and minimally-invasive options such as radiofrequency assisted BodyTite liposuction in NYC. If you are considering body contouring treatment, it is important to know the difference between these techniques.

BodyTite Liposuction is an advanced minimally invasive permanent fat removal and skin tightening treatment. It uses radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) for effective fat removal and cellulite reduction with noticeable skin tightening effects. The procedure can provide 40% more skin tightening than traditional liposuction treatment. A young, healthy person with good quality skin may experience good skin contraction after the procedure.

Traditional liposuction, on the other hand, involves invasive surgery that targets stubborn fat pocket. It is performed under general anesthesia as it requires large incisions to insert a larger cannula for fat removal. Conventional liposuction alone does not provide any skin tightening benefits. So there is an increased possibility of dimpling or sagging after the procedure, particularly with older patients who have lost skin elasticity.

BodyTite NYC works on the same principal as liposuction to remove stubborn fat. The device has two probes that work simultaneously. One works beneath the skin, heating the entire soft-tissue matrix and melting the fat via the temperature controlled radio-frequency technology. The second probe simultaneously aspirates the liquefied fat and coagulates the adipose, fibrous, and vascular tissue. The heat generated tightens the skin quickly and coagulates the tissues, allowing the plastic surgeon to sculpt the body to the ideal shape. BodyTite liposuction can provide noticeable skin tightening effects, especially for those who are left with sagging skin or loose skin after traditional liposuction.

Differences between BodyTite and traditional liposuction are shown below:

BodyTite Traditional Liposuction
Anesthesia Requires local anaesthesia

General anaesthesia / IV sedation

What it does Liquefies fat before removal via suctioning and uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin

Suctions out fat but leaves behind loose skin

Skin Tightening Visible skin tightening through renewed collagen production

Additional surgery may be needed to remove loose skin

Scars Minimal scars that fade with time Result in larger scars

Downtime Downtime is approximately 2-3 days

Downtime is about 7 – 14 days

Compression garment A compression garment may have to be worn for about 2 weeks

May require wearing a compression garment for up to 6 weeks

Surgical trauma Reduced bruising, swelling and other surgical trauma More bruising and swelling to the area. Extensive deep tissue bruising that may last weeks and even months.
Recovery Most patients achieve full recovery in a couple of days Regular liposuction involves a long recovery time
Number of treatments required Usually one treatment is sufficient though some people may need two. Usually one session is enough as up to three liters of fat can be removed in just one session and up to three areas of the body can be treated (depending on the size).
Results seen Results are patient specific and depend on the treatment area and amount of fat removed. Larger areas will require a longer recovery time. Initial results can be seen immediately after the procedure, with the best results visible after 6-12 weeks.

Following traditional surgery, noticeable improvement is usually seen in about 3-9 months’ time and final results after one year.

Leading NYC plastic surgeons may combine advanced and traditional liposuction techniques to provide patients with the best outcomes. If you are considering body contouring treatment, choose an AAAASF-accredited NYC plastic surgery practice with surgeons who are experts in performing the procedure. A good plastic surgeon attaches top priority to patient safety and care and can ensure attractive and long-lasting body sculpting results. Regardless of the type of procedure you have, following a healthy lifestyle is necessary to maintain the results.

Latest ASPS Statistics Reveal Rising Interest in Minimally-invasive and Non-invasive Procedures

The popularity of plastic surgery in the United States is clearly revealed by the increasing number of men and women who undergo diverse aesthetic procedures to look and feel good. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) annual plastic surgery procedural statistics, up to 17.5 million surgical and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. in 2017, a 2 percent increase over 2016. Plastic surgery practices that offer body sculpting in NYC use state-of-the-art technologies to help individuals achieve their aesthetic goals with the least discomfort and downtime. ASPS reports that minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures have increased nearly 200% since 2000, showing that Americans are turning to new and innovative ways to shape their bodies.Minimally-invasive and Non-invasive Procedures

Advanced minimally-invasive and non-invasive techniques are known for their efficacy and safety. According to ASPS, minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures grew at a slightly higher rate than surgical procedures in 2017. While three of the top-five surgical procedures focused on the body, the top minimally-invasive procedures were related to the face. Nearly 1.8 million procedures were performed in the country in 2017, of which the top 5 cosmetic surgical and minimally-invasive procedures are as follows:

  • Breast augmentation (300,378 procedures, up 3 percent from 2016)
  • Liposuction (246,354 procedures, up 5 percent from 2016)
  • Nose reshaping (218,924 procedures, down 2 percent from 2016)
  • Eyelid surgery (209,571 procedures, approximately the same as 2016)\
  • Tummy tuck (129,753 procedures, up 2 percent from 2016)

Among the 15.7 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures performed in 2017, the top 5 were Botulinum Toxin Type A, Soft Tissue Fillers, Chemical Peel, Laser Hair Removal and Microdermabrasion.

ASPS data shows that body sculpting and non-invasive fat procedures are booming. This is because more and more people are now opting for minimally invasive procedures to get rid of stubborn fat and reshape different parts of their bodies. Popular body contouring modalities include ultrasound and radiofrequency energy-assisted devices, infrared light, vacuum massage and injectable medications. Non-invasive procedures such as cellulite treatments are also gaining its popularity and rose nearly 20% over the previous year. These procedures eliminate fat and tighten the skin without invasive surgery.

The report notes that the following non-invasive procedures continue to gain popularity are:

  • Procedures that use special technology to “freeze” away fat without surgery increased 7%
  • Cellulite treatments that use lasers to eliminate fat increased 19% (up 55% since 2000)
  • Skin tightening procedures that target fat and tighten sagging areas increased 9%

Apart from non-invasive procedures, tummy tuck and breast reduction surgeries have also seen a significant spike in popularity. Though tummy tuck had dropped from top five cosmetic procedures in 2016, it made a comeback in 2017.

Summing up these trends, ASPS President Jeffrey E. Janis, MD, said: “Unwanted fat is something that affects so many Americans. Plastic surgeons are able to give patients more options than ever before for fat elimination or redistribution. Patients appreciate having options, especially if they can act as maintenance steps while they decide if getting something more extensive down the line will be right for them.”
