Breast Reduction and Breast Lift – What’s The Difference?

Breast Reduction and Breast Lift - What's The Difference? There are different types of cosmetic breast surgery options that women can choose from to achieve their aesthetic goals. For instance, breast enlargement in Manhattan, NYC involves using different types of implants to improve breast size and shape. However, while many women look to improve breast size, there are others who want reduction or repositioning without enhancement. Such women need either a breast reduction procedure (also called reduction mammoplasty) or breast lift surgery to achieve their goals. However, many prospective patients are confused about which option would be right for them. Knowing the difference between reduction mammoplasty and a breast lift is important to make the right choice.

Reduction mammoplasty reduces the weight and size of the breasts and is recommended to address overly large breasts that cause neck, shoulder, or back pain and inhibit their ability to exercise. A breast lift raises the bust line by eliminating excess skin and reshaping the tissue to result in a more youthful, upright appearance. The concerns addressed by these procedures are as follows:

Breast Reduction

  • Physical activity limitations
  • Back and neck discomfort
  • Poor posture
  • Difficulty breathing and sleeping
  • Chronic skin rashes
  • Difficulty finding clothing and proper support
  • Bra straps digging into your shoulders

Breast lift

  • Insecurity due to sagging breasts
  • Flat or drooping-shaped breasts
  • Downward pointed nipples or nipples that fall below the breast crease
  • Stretched out skin due to weight fluctuation, aging and breastfeeding
  • Tuberous breasts or breasts that lack Symmetry

How Breast Reduction and Breast Lift Surgery are Performed

Breast Reduction involves reducing breast size to achieve achieving a well-shaped, attractive bust line that is proportionate with overall body shape. Pregnancy, hormonal changes, certain medications, genetic factors, and obesity are the key factors responsible for disproportionate enlargement of the breasts. Overly large breasts condition can affect appearance, health, well-being and lifestyle. Reduction mammoplasty involves removal of excess fat, glandular tissue, and skin to provide the desired breast size and appearance.

In leading AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practices, expert surgeons use advanced minimally-invasive liposuction modalities such as BodyTite RFAL (radiofrequency assisted) or Smartlipo (laser assisted) to perform breast reduction safely and provide optimal outcomes. One of the advantages of such minimally-invasive treatments is that the procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia, which means patients remain awake throughout the procedure and are usually allowed to go home the same day.

Breast Lift surgery is performed to resolve breast sag caused due to aging, weight fluctuations, and breastfeeding. A breast lift in NYC is an ideal option to address sagging and restore firm and perkier breasts. Performed under general anesthesia, this popular cosmetic surgical procedure involves removing excess, stretched-out skin, reshaping the breast tissue, and raising the nipple and areola to a higher, more forward location. It can address concerns such as drooping breasts, asymmetrical breasts, tuberous breasts, and more. The latest annual statistics report of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reveals that the popularity of breast lift surgery grew by 4% from 2017, and that a total of 109,638 procedures performed in 2018.

Unlike breast reduction, a breast lift does not change the breast volume significantly as little to no breast tissue is removed. A lift is performed using different types of incisions. The surgeon will choose the most appropriate technique based on a thorough evaluation of considerations such as breast size, shape, and extent of sag. The procedure typically takes two to three hours to complete.

Conventional breast lift surgery uses general anesthesia. Today, expert NYC plastic surgeons perform the procedure using minimally invasive BodyTite™, an FDA-approved Radiofrequency Assisted Liposuction (RFAL) workstation. The procedure can shape, tighten and lift the breast without the scarring associated with a surgical breast lift. BodyTite Perky Lift or scarless breast lift in NYC is an ideal option for women concerned about the scars associated with mastopexy. As the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, it involves less downtime than the traditional option. Patients can resume normal activities soon after the procedure but should avoid strenuous activities for up to one week after the treatment.

Women seeking to reposition, reduce and/or reshape their breasts should be aware of these arrays of choices. Though both treatments can provide elevated bust line and enhance breast contour, they are different in many ways. A reliable surgeon will recommend the best option to meet your body sculpting goals.

While breast lift and breast reduction differ in terms of approach and results, they offer many similar benefits:

  • Both procedures are relatively routine and result in an instantly noticeable outcome
  • Most women who undergo either procedure report high levels of satisfaction and increase in self-confidence
  • Both procedures can help improve posture
  • Breastfeeding is possible after either procedure
  • Scars resulting from either procedure can be placed in areas to reduce visibility

A breast lift can be combined with either a breast reduction procedure or breast enlargement.

Cosmetic breast surgery involves many options. To learn which one is best for you, consult an experienced NYC plastic surgeon in an AAAASF-accredited surgical center.

What You Need to Know about a Tummy Tuck

What You Need to Know about a Tummy TuckIf you are looking to address a flabby tummy and achieve a trimmer, tighter midsection, consider getting tummy tuck surgery in Manhattan. The procedure remove excess abdominal fat, removes loose skin, and tightens the muscles. It is usually recommended when diet and exercise cannot provide the desired results. According to the latest American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) report, tummy tuck was among the top five cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2018.

Excess fat and sagging skin in the abdomen are the result of factors such as genetics, pregnancy and excessive weight loss. Also known as abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck addresses these concerns and results in a slimmer, firmer and smoother tummy. NYC plastic surgeons use the FDA approved, minimally-invasive advanced liposuction devices such as BodyTite, Smartlipo Triplex and VASER lipo to perform tummy tuck surgery and provide optimal outcomes.

If you are considering this cosmetic surgical procedure, you should know what it involves. As there are diverse abdominoplasty techniques, the steps would differ depending upon the method used. A reliable NYC plastic surgeon will determine the right option for you based on the extent of correction required.

Here are the various surgical techniques used to perform a tummy tuck:

  • Complete or Full Abdominoplasty – This procedure corrects abdominal muscles that have become stretched out or loose over time. It is ideal for those patients who need the most correction.
  • Partial Abdominoplasty or Mini Tummy Tuck – This procedure is designed for those patients who have a lesser degree of skin laxity and mild lower abdominal skin excess.
  • Liposuction-only Abdominoplasty – This option is for younger patients with good skin elasticity and moderate fatty deposits.
  • Brazilian Tummy Tuck – This treatment is a combination of liposuction and abdominoplasty, the traditional elliptical excision of excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen. Invented by a Brazilian surgeon, this liposculpture technique is intended to significantly reshape the abdomen and central torso. It can provide superior waist contouring outcomes for patients who have large amounts of loose skin and fat in the abdominal area, such as that caused by multiple pregnancies.

How a Tummy Tuck is Performed

A complete abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and involves incisions. Minimally invasive techniques such as laser-assisted Smartlipo Triplex, radiofrequency-assisted BodyTite or ultrasound-assisted VASER require only local anesthesia, allowing the procedure to be performed on an outpatient basis. These safe body contouring technologies come with high-definition sculpting capabilities, and proven tissue coagulation and skin tightening benefits.

After determining the suitable abdominoplasty technique, your plastic surgeon will make incisions to remove most of the skin and fat. If you are considering Brazilian tummy tuck then the incision will be placed very low on the pubic area, so that the surgical scar will not be visible even when a low-cut bikini is worn. This treatment pulls the waist in and gets rid of excess skin, providing a smaller looking waist. It also pulls up the pubic area that is likely to drop with age and pregnancy. This option is generally recommended when there is more excess fat than skin.

After a Tummy Tuck

After the surgery, your abdominal incision will likely be covered with surgical dressing. Small tubes might be placed along the incision site to drain any excess blood or fluid. Recovery time will vary depending on individual considerations and other factors. Going by your surgeon’s instructions is crucial for smooth healing and optimal results. Here are some things you should know about recovery:

  • Mild to moderate discomfort is common after the surgery. You will have some swelling and bruising, and may experience some tightness for the first two weeks.
  • Your bed will be positioned to keep your upper body slightly raised and your knees at an angle for the first few days after surgery.
  • Light activities are encouraged to prevent the formation of blood clots.
  • Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least six weeks.
  • Follow your surgeon’s instructions about care of your drains
  • Take the prescribed antibiotics.
  • You will be advised to wear an abdominal binder during the first week post surgery until most of the swelling resolves and a compression garment in the second week which has to be worn for 6 to 8 weeks to support your tissues as they heal.
  • Avoid positions that strain your incision line
  • For proper wound healing and to minimize scarring, follow your surgeon’s instructions on caring your scar.
  • Inform your plastic surgeon if symptoms such as pain, redness and swelling take too long to resolve
  • Schedule and keep follow-up visits with your surgeon.

In leading NYC plastic surgery practices, pain management options such as the ON-Q PainBuster® pain relief system is used to ease recovery. The pump delivers local anesthetic continuously to the treatment site so that there is no pain for the first five days. The use of this non-narcotic automatic pump significantly reduces downtime, improves mobility, and speeds up return to normalcy.

To make your results last, make sure you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Gaining weight can affect the outcomes of abdominoplasty.

If you are considering tummy tuck surgery in Manhattan, choose an AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practices with plastic surgeons who are experts in performing the procedure. Undergoing treatment in an AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practice is important for standardized care processes and for your safety.

Fat Resorption Concerns after Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

Fat Resorption Concerns after Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery

The demand for Brazilian butt lifts in New York is growing, a clear indication that women now prefer fat transfer buttock enhancement over implants. Performed by skilled plastic surgeons using local anesthesia, the procedure provides natural looking results with less downtime, side effects, and recovery time than conventional surgery.

One common concern that arises in Brazilian butt surgery is fat resorption. Generally, resorption occurs after BBL because some of the fat cells do not survive when they are transferred to its new environment. Factors impacting resorption include

  • Limited blood supply
  • Patient anatomy
  • Total volume of fat transferred
  • Tightness and elasticity of skin in new site
  • History of smoking
  • Non-compliance with post-op protocols

In the past, the procedure was criticized for its short-lived results due to fat absorption. No matter how carefully the surgeons do it and how advanced the techniques are developed for fat transfer, not all of the fat transferred during BBL will survive. This will alter your results. On the RealSelf forum, expert plastic surgeons point out that fat absorption following BBL it can occur in about 35% of the patients and that it usually happens in the first 6 weeks.

While patients should discuss their goals with their surgeon at the consultation, expert NYC plastic surgeons say that a good amount of fat in the order of several hundred CCs or even more may be needed per buttock. In anticipation of fat resorption, plastic surgeons may opt to overfill the buttocks with fat by a certain percentage. This varies from surgeon to surgeon and the technique used. The end result would be a combination of the post-operative swelling which is normal, as well as the relative overfilling of the buttocks. As a result of this overfilling, t he shape and volume of the buttocks will be quite enhanced in the early phase following Brazilian butt surgery.

The following factors can promote better fat graft outcomes in Brazilian butt augmentation:

  • Gentle liposuction technique: The site for fat removal would be selected and will be injected it with a local anesthetic. The liposuction technique matters. NYC surgeons use VASER liposuction to extract fat for injection into the buttock. VASER preserves the viability of the fat cells for buttock augmentation. This ultrasound-assisted technology also breaks up fat selectively while preserving the other structures such as blood vessels, nerves and connective tissue.
  • Fat purification prior to re-injection: Another key factor in maximum fat survival is the method of purifying the fat graft. Once enough fat is collected from the donor site, the fat cells need to be purified to prepare them for the fat injections. The removed fat should be spun at low gravity forces for brief periods of time and then purified. If not, unhealthy, dead or broken cells will get mixed with the good cells used for reinjection, which will affect the results.
  • Careful fat injection: The most important part of BBL is re-injecting the purified fat into the buttocks. High success rates of fat survival can be achieved by choosing a proper method of placement. Re-injection is carefully done using micro droplet techniques, that is, it is injected in very small quantities and at the right depths. This technique promotes long-term survival of the fat and provides a smooth skin surface and natural buttock contour. Proper blood supply is essential for the long-term survival of fat grafts.
  • Adherence to post-operative care instructions: Even with an expert performing BBL, results completely depends on how you care for yourself during the pre and post-op period. You would need to diligently follow your surgeon’s post op care instructions. There are several steps you can take to maximize the survivability of the fat graft. You should avoid sitting during the post-op period. If you need to sit, use a donut pillow or inflatable pillow. Patients are also advised to sleep on the stomach or sides and avoid sleeping on the back. It is in the early several weeks after the surgery the blood cells develop. Once the cells are matured after several weeks to months, the fat that has been transferred should last several years or longer.
  • Healthy lifestyle: The longevity of the results would also depend on the patient’s lifestyle. Proper diet and regular exercise are necessary to maintain a healthy weight as fluctuations in weight can alter the results.

Good technique and proper care come together to result in a natural, improved buttock contour that lasts permanently.

If you are planning to undergo Brazilian butt lifts in New York, choose a surgeon who has extensive experience in performing the procedure. This is very important for your safety and to achieve optimal outcomes. Following your surgeon’s post-op instructions will promote smooth recovery.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Fat Transfer Procedure?

Are You a Good Candidate for a Fat Transfer Procedure?
Fat transfer is now a widely used technique in both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. This natural solution involves harvesting excess fat from one area of the patient’s body and using it to improve another area that needs enhancement. While the fat removed during body contouring cannot be transferred from one person to another, it can be moved to another area of the patient’s body. Fat transfer in NYC can smooth out wrinkles and improve areas that loose volume with aging, by transferring fat from one part of your body to another. It is a safe, well tolerated procedure that produces natural-looking results if performed by expert plastic surgeons.

Liposuction is used for fat harvesting from various parts of our body where fat is in abundance. Common donor sites from which fat can be taken include the abdomen, thighs, and hips and commonly grafted, or injected, areas include the hands, face (including the lips), depressions in the skin (following liposuction and scarring) and the breast and buttock (for augmentation). Here are three cosmetic surgical procedures that use fat grafting:

  • Buttock augmentation with fat grafting: An increasingly popular buttock augmentation procedure, Brazilian butt lift (BBL) surgery uses the patient’s fat to provide a more curvaceous buttock without the use of an implant. Leading NYC plastic surgeons provide BBL under local anesthesia (BBLULA), an ideal option for women who are looking for a small to moderate size improvement. Here, the amount of fat that is injected to the buttocks is limited when compared to when done under general anesthesia. As it is performed under local anesthesia, recuperation time is short. Fat transfer butt lift surgery offers two benefits: removal of excess fat from problem areas and enhancement of buttocks that have volume deficiencies or other imperfections. Other benefits include: reduces the chance of allergic reactions caused by insertion of foreign materials; natural, long lasting results, and short down time.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Fat Transfer Procedure?

  • Breast augmentation with implants and fat grafting: If you desire a modest increase in breast size then you can consider breast augmentation in Manhattan, NYC with implants. But some women do not have enough tissue to hold the implant. In such cases, they can rely on composite breast augmentation which is a combination treatment. This procedure involves injecting autologous fat over the implant and offers the advantages of improved projection, better cleavage and a softer, natural look. However, if you have poor skin, sagging breasts, and want a significant increase in breast size, you may not benefit from fat transfer for breast augmentation.
  •  Facial fat transfer: If you are looking for cheek or lip augmentation, fat transfer can be very helpful. Your lips and cheeks can be augmented with your own fat tissue.

There are additional criteria that you need to meet to be a good candidate for fat transfer:

  • Must have sufficient fat in the donor sites
  • Must be in good health
  • Should not have any circulation problems from a medical condition
  • Do not smoke, or are prepared to quit smoking for several weeks prior to and after the procedure
  • Recognize both the rewards and possible risks of the procedure
  • Are not currently pregnant or nursing
  • Should have a positive attitude and realistic expectations

It is also important for patients who are considering fat transfer to understand that more than one session of fat transfer may be required for some in order to achieve full correction of contour because not all of the injected fat cells will survive. So expecting drop off of some of the fat, an experienced surgeon will probably opt to overfill the treated areas mainly buttocks with fat by a certain percentage.

After reviewing your medical history, conducting a physical exam, and identifying your desired outcome for the procedure your plastic surgeon will discuss the specifics of the fat transfer procedure and what you can expect in greater detail, including preparation, the day of the procedure, and recovery, along with answering any remaining questions you may have.

The results of the procedure will depend on the plastic surgeon’s experience and expertise. A skilled and well trained New York City plastic surgeon who is expert in both liposuction and fat grafting can provide attractive outcomes by achieving the right balance between fat removal and addition.

Facelift in Manhattan – Frequently Asked Questions

Facelift in Manhattan - Frequently Asked Questions
Are you concerned about obvious signs of facial aging such as fold, wrinkles, line and creases? Then it’s time to consider a facelift in Manhattan. Skilled plastic surgeons in Manhattan, NYC perform facelift surgery to address these concerns and provide men and women with a more youthful, refreshed appearance.

Facial aging occurs due to skin changes and changes in the deeper soft tissues of the face. Natural aging, skin type, gravity, and sun exposure are among the many factors that cause obvious signs of aging. While the process is natural, facial aging can make many people less confident or even feel they have aged too fast. Facelift surgery can address the effects of facial aging. This procedure can take years off your appearance by eliminating facial creases, folds, wrinkles and sagging skin.

Most people considering a facelift have many questions about the procedure. Here are the answers to frequently asked questions about this cosmetic surgical procedure:

What concerns can a facelift in Manhattan address?

A facelift can improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck such as:

  • Mid-face sagging
  • Creases below the lower eyelids
  • Creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • Facial fat
  • Jowls
  • Double chin

Are you a good candidate for a facelift?

Although the procedure is relatively simple, not everyone is a suitable candidate. Good candidates for a facelift include:

  • Individuals with good skin elasticity, a strong bone structure, and loose skin on their face or neck
  • Healthy individuals who do not have medical conditions that impair healing
  • Nonsmokers
  • Individuals with a positive outlook and realistic expectations

However, you are not an ideal candidate if:

  • You take blood-thinning medications or supplements
  • If you have a history of repeated weight gain and loss which affect the shape of your face and condition of your skin.

How is a facelift performed?

Traditional facelifts involve the use of various surgical techniques to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. The incision typically begins in the hairline at the temples, continues around the ear and ends in the lower scalp. Fat may be sculpted or grafts placed in areas with volume loss, such as the cheeks, under-eye areas and lips. The procedure also involves repositioning of the facial fat pads and sometimes, lifting of the deeper layers of the face, and the muscles. Excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is redraped over the uplifted contours. Another incision under the chin may be needed to improve aging concerns in the neck. The incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives.

What are techniques used to perform a facelift?

A facelift can be performed using surgical methods and also minimally-invasive modalities. The surgical options include:

  • Short scar face lift– limited length of incision to behind the ear and is ideal for younger patients with mild to moderate aging
  • Subperiosteal lift– tightens the deeper tissues
  • Deep plane lift– reshapes the whole face including the neck, brow and both upper and lower eyelids
  • Mid-face lift – improves area beginning below the eye to the lower cheek area, including nasolabial folds

Expert NYC plastic surgeons perform a facelift using advanced minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation options that involve hardly any downtime while providing dramatic results. These include:

  • KYBELLA: This injectable is FDA-approved for treating a double chin. It eliminates the fat and improves definition in the neck and jaw line.
  • EmbraceRF: An innovative facial aesthetics technology by InMode, this minimally invasive procedure provides a long-lasting solution to the effects of facial aging. EmbraceRF in NYC is an innovative scarless facial contouring procedure that addresses the lower third of the face, specifically the neck and jowls.

How is EmbraceRF different from other facial contouring procedures?

Unlike other existing treatments, physicians can strategically determine in how much fat is removed, left behind or molded. The procedure allows the plastic surgeon to “mold” the fat of the face in strategic positions and address laxity with the FDA-cleared Subdermal Adipose Remodeling Device (SARD) and Morpheus8. This new concept of facial rejuvenation is unique to EmbraceRF which allows for precise sculpting of the face and body by allowing the physician to balance the amount of fat removed, molded, and retained.

How do you know that you need a facelift?

If you are considering the procedure, look for signs that indicate you are ready to have this cosmetic surgical procedure.

Is age or timing a factor while considering facelift?

Timing is an important consideration when it comes to having a facelift. If you notice mild laxity, it should ideally be corrected before it gets worse. In most cases, laxity becomes obvious between the ages of 40 and 60. Patients who get a conventional facelift before age 50 may see optimal results because they tend to have more skin elasticity.

What is the recovery process like?

After the treatment, it is essential to take care of your skin to enjoy smooth recovery and for long-lasting results. Moreover, the operative technique and the skills and experience of the surgeon also matter when it comes to recovering smoothly after any cosmetic surgical procedure.

How long does a facelift last?

Depending on how old you were when you had a facelift, a proper facelift should last 10+ years. Taking care of your skin will facelift results last longer.

If you are considering a facelift in Manhattan, then choose an AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practice that has surgeons who have the specialized skill required to perform this procedure. Only an expert can provide optimal results.

Chest Implants for Men – What You Need to Know

Chest Implants for Men - What You Need to KnowMany men find that even hours of rigorous workouts cannot help them achieve the desired definition and muscularity in the chest area. Fortunately, pectoral or chest implants for men provide the solution. It has become a popular option among men, particularly for men who are athletic and want to be able to show off a more sculpted, masculine chest.

Factors such as genetics, growth defects, injury and other conditions can restrict the growth of the chest muscles. Leading NYC plastic surgery practices offering pectoral implants for men provide customized solutions to help men achieve their aesthetic goals. The surgeons can determine the correct shape and size of implant that will provide the best results for each candidate and also have the artistic skills to provide attractive, natural looking results.

To be a good candidate for pectoral implants, you need to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Have underdeveloped pectoral muscles and want to improve them
  • Are athletic and want to enhance chest definition and contour
  • Have an asymmetrical chest
  • Are healthy and have realistic expectations

The pectoral implant procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes about two hours to complete. It involves:

  • Inserting the implants under the pectoral muscle.
  • An incision of about 2 inches in length is made in the armpit.
  • A pocket is then created to place the implant under the pectoralis major muscle.
  • The implant is fitted completely under the existing muscle in most cases
  • Once the implants have been placed, the surgeon carefully checks for symmetry and makes any final adjustments.
  • Incision is then closed with sutures, which will dissolve overtime
  • To create a more dramatic aesthetic enhancement, if you require, the surgeon can perform liposuction or other body contouring options along with the placement of pectoral implants.

During the healing process, the implant becomes surrounded by the scar tissue pocket, where it stays permanently. You won’t be able to feel them that easily when the surgery is performed correctly and the implants are placed so that they are well hidden by the tissues. Just like breast implants for women, pectoral implants would be noticeable and easier to feel if they are placed above the muscle.

Chest Implants for Men - What You Need to Know

Men undergoing pectoral implant procedure need to be aware about the significance of proper post-operative care. It is very important for patients to diligently follow the aftercare instructions that their plastic surgeon gives them. They will be given detailed instructions about their post-op care, which includes information about drains, normal symptoms, and potential signs of complications. • Patients are usually be allowed to return home on the same day of your surgery, although sometimes they may need to stay in hospital overnight.
  • Patients generally experience mild to moderate discomfort postoperatively, which is usually controlled with pain medication.
  • The surgeon will advise you not to lift your arms for 2 days post-op.
  • Light activity is permitted during the recovery period. Routine activities can be resumed two weeks after the procedure, while exercise should be delayed for about two months.
  • Maintaining a balanced, fiber-rich diet is important. Avoid sugary and fatty foods.
  • Keep hydrated. Drinking healthy fluids cleanses the body and reduces swelling.
  • Some sort of leakage is common during the initial days following the treatment.
  • Your incisions will heal in approximately 14 days and the implant healing will be complete in about 6 weeks.
  • If the pain is extreme or does not resolve, contact your surgeon.

The amount of time taken for recovery varies greatly among individuals.

AAASF-accredited plastic surgery practices offering chest implants for men in NYC provide customized solutions. Skilled and experienced surgeons in these practices will consider factors such as body type, symmetry, proportions, and individual preferences and expectations to provide the best results.

BodyTite Liposuction – Frequently Asked Questions

BodyTite Liposuction - Frequently Asked QuestionsAdvancements in technology have made body contouring much easier. Performed using local anesthesia, minimally invasive techniques allow plastic surgeons to provide excellent results with minimal downtime and short recovery. BodyTite is a versatile minimally invasive modality that provides superior results. BodyTite liposuction surgery utilizes patented radiofrequency-assisted liposuction (RFAL) technology to provide safe, gentle, and effective body contouring.

Here are the answers to such frequently asked questions about BodyTite liposuction surgery:

  • What is BodyTite?

BodyTite is a safe, minimally-invasive cosmetic surgical procedure that offers efficient removal of stubborn fat and cellulite reduction along with noticeable skin tightening effects. The FDA-cleared BodyTite liposuction device uses patented RFAL™ (radiofrequency assisted liposuction) technology. It delivers radiofrequency energy to liquefy subcutaneous fat so that it can be easily removed. It also coagulates the blood vessels, and tightens the skin, while leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed.

  • What areas can be treated with BodyTite?

BodyTite can remove fat and tighten tissues in the abdomen, flanks (waist), love-handles, breasts (BodyTite Perky Lift), thighs, back, arms (scarless) and knee areas. Leading NYC plastic surgeons Drs. Spero Theodorou and Christopher T. Chia of bodySCULPT in NYC are inventors of BodyTite on Arms, a scarless arm lift procedure.

  • What type of anesthesia is needed for BodyTite?

BodyTite can be performed under local anesthesia, which means lower risks and faster recovery.

  • What does the procedure involve?

After marking the area to be treated, the patient will be administered local anesthesia. A tiny incision will be created to insert the BodyTite handpiece into the subcutaneous tissue. RFAL energy passes from an internal cannula to an external electrode, delivering focused energy into the adipose tissue to melt the fat. The handpiece simultaneously aspirates the liquefied fat and coagulates the tissue. The RF energy also stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin. The outcome is a smooth, attractive and natural looking physique.

BodyTite liposuction treats deep fat up to 50 mm, controls heating so that large volume contraction is consistent, avoids over-treatment or under treatment, and allows focused treatment of all large volume areas.

  • Who is a good candidate for BodyTite?

A good candidate for the BodyTite is generally a healthy person with troublesome areas of excess fat and skin that they would like to get corrected. The best candidates have moderate skin laxity and are within 30% of their ideal weight. The following are not good candidates for this RFAL procedure:

  • Women who are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • People with autoimmune diseases
  • Those with skin diseases and/or infections
  • Anyone with allergies to certain local anesthetics
  • What are the benefits of BodyTite liposution?

The advantages of BodyTite over traditional liposuction or other forms of lipo include:

  • Nonsurgical, minimally invasive procedure
  • Can remove unwanted and stubborn fat from multiple areas of the body such as the face, neck, chin, upper arms (scarless), abdominal areas, love handles, hips, inner thighs, knees, and buttocks.
  • Radiofrequency energy tightens the skin quickly and coagulates the tissues to sculpt the body to the ideal shape
  • Can provide 40% more skin tightening than traditional liposuction treatment.
  • Allows for considerable fat reduction and effective body firming
  • Safety features of the device reduce the risk of any thermal or heat injuries
  • More comfortable than conventional liposuction treatment
  • Only local anesthesia or light sedation is required
  • Visible skin tightening through renewed collagen production
  • No lumpy irregularities because of the precision of the procedure
  • The procedure usually takes only 30-45 minutes and is virtually painless
  • Short downtime, reduced bruising and surgical trauma
  • Quick healing and less scarring
  • Does not require overnight stay
  • When can physical activities be resumed after the procedure?

Most people get back to their exercise regimen within two to three weeks of BodyTite. You can start off with walking the next day, doing light stretching within a week, and performing 1/4 to 1/2 intensity workouts in the several weeks thereafter. Once the tenderness and swelling begins to subside, they can progress to their regular workouts. However, the golden rule is: “let your body be your guide with respect to the degree of exertion”.

  • How long is the recovery time and when results can be visible?

Results are patient specific and depend on the treatment area and amount of fat removed. Larger areas will require a longer recovery time. Initial results can be seen immediately after the procedure, with the best results noticeable after 6-12 weeks. However, most patients achieve full recovery in a couple of days.

The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia on a outpatient basis in a hospital, free-standing ambulatory facility, or office-based surgical suite. It usually takes about two hours to complete.

Things to expect on the day of surgery:

  • During this procedure, medications will be administered for your comfort.
  • Though general anesthesia is usually administered during pectoral implant procedure, local anesthesia or intravenous sedation may also be used in certain instances.
  • You will be monitored continuously during the procedure to check your heart, blood pressure, pulse, and the amount of oxygen circulating in your blood.

A reliable surgeon will follow the surgical plan discussed with you before surgery. After numbing the treated area, the surgeon will make an incision of about 2 inches in the armpit and create a pocket for the implant to be inserted under the pectoralis major muscle. After inserting the chest implants, the incision is closed and the same process repeated on the opposite side.

After the completion of procedure, you will be taken into a recovery area where you will continue to be closely monitored. You may be advised by your plastic surgeon to wear compression garment to help minimize swelling or implant shift. After a short observation period, assuming there were no complications, you will probably be allowed to go home.

The sutures will dissolve over time and during the healing process, the implant becomes surrounded by the scar tissue pocket, where it stays permanently. With minimal bleeding and discomfort, the procedure comes with a short recovery period. Patients can return to their routine activities within two weeks of the procedure but have to wait up to two months to resume exercises. Contact your surgeon if you experience any problems such as increased pain, soreness or redness in the area. Preparing well for pectoral implant surgery as well as proper post-operative care is crucial to promote smooth recovery and optimal results.

Choosing an AAAASF-accredited plastic surgery practice and a reliable and experienced plastic surgeon who is specialized in the male pectoral implant procedure is necessary for safe treatment and attractive outcomes. A good surgeon will consider factors such as body type, symmetry, proportions and individual preferences and expectations to provide the best results. Evaluating before and after photos of previous patients who have had pectoral implant surgery in the practice will help you get an idea about the surgeon’s skills.

Breast Augmentation: Are Breast Implants Safe?

Breast Augmentation: Are Breast Implants Safe?Breast augmentation in New York City is a popular cosmetic surgical procedure, helping women enhance their physical appearance and boost confidence and self-esteem. Performed using breast implants, this is an ideal option for women who want fuller breasts, to correct breasts that differ in size and shape, or to restore breast volume and firmness lost due to excessive weight loss, pregnancy, aging, or other reasons. Hundreds of thousands of patients opt to have breast implant surgery every year and report no adverse effects.  However, this popular procedure is not without its concerns and has resulted in a long-standing debate on the safety of breast implants.

Breast augmentation ranked first among the top five cosmetic surgical procedures in 2018. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), up to 313,735 breast augmentation procedures were performed in 2018, up 4 percent from 2017. In Manhattan, NYC, breast enlargement is performed using various types of FDA approved implants. The implants are usually placed behind the breast tissue or under the chest muscle. They also come in different sizes and shapes such as tear-drop, or round and with textured and smooth surfaces to fit any woman’s breasts and body type.

Even as the demand for breast implants continues to rise, concerns have been raised over their safety. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has stated that breast implants are safe, but that no medical device is without risks. There have been rare cases of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a highly treatable type of lymphoma, but ASPS notes that “decades of research have yet to establish a causal relationship between the device and systemic disease”.

However, with women’s advocacy groups continuing to raise concerns about breast implant safety, the FDA recently took a fresh look into the matter. The FDA advisory committee completed two days of hearings on breast implants’ links to long-term complications. Researchers, plastic surgeons and implant makers, as well as from women who believe their ailments were caused by the implants participated in the discussions.

CNN reported that while many plastic surgeons reported patient satisfaction with breast implants, they said that patients considering breast augmentation should have all up-to-date information so that they can make an informed decision. Another suggestion was the FDA limits the sale of breast implants to only board-certified plastic surgeons.

Suggestions from patients in the hearing include: taking implants with textured surfaces  off the market, mandatory testing for health risks associated with breast implants, and improved communication and informed consent about the risks and benefits of breast implants, such as in the form of a warning label. At the conclusion of the meetings, the panel recommended that the FDA require manufacturers to provide simpler and clearer health warnings to all patients. The FDA did not propose any new restrictions or warnings or propose any ban on any type of implant. The agency’s longstanding view is that implants are fundamentally safe as long as women understand they can have complications, including scarring, pain, swelling and implant rupture (www.medicalxpress.com).

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) takes all patient safety concerns seriously. According to the ASPS, breast implants are an important option for breast reconstruction and augmentation. Breast implants carry a risk of complications like any other medical device, and if patients develop a complication, they should consult their plastic surgeon to address it in a timely manner.

Complications that might occur with breast implants include:

  • Ruptures
  • Capsular contracture
  • Irreversibility
  • Changes in appearance and sensation
  • Associated health problems
  • Surgical complications

Breast augmentation is safe when performed and maintained as recommended. You will be given specific postoperative instructions and a follow-up appointment by your plastic surgeon. Most women return to work and light activity within one week after this procedure. Breast implants require only little maintenance, but you may be asked to take an MRI scan every few years just to ensure the implant is intact. The FDA recommends medical imaging to verify the implant’s integrity beginning at three years and every two years after that. Expert plastic surgeons in AAAASF-accredited practices offering breast augmentation in New York City inform potential patients of any risks associated with any procedure or device during their time of visit and help them to take an informed decision.

Patient Has a Pleasant Scarless Arm Lift Surgery Experience
Leading plastic surgeons at NYC-based bodySCULPT® plastic surgery practice are experienced in performing BodyTite arm lift, an innovative procedure to enhance arm contour.  Patient testimonials highlighting their experience are valuable for any plastic surgery practice. Alyssa is one of our patients and she is happy to talk about her scarless arm lift surgery experience at our NYC office.

Patient’s Chief Complaint

Alyssa is 28 years old and a teacher by profession. She approached our office last year, and her chief complaint was that even after working out and eating right she had difficulty toning the back of her arms.

Assessment

During consultation, our expert plastic surgeon Dr. Spero J Theodorou recommended BodyTite arm lift to remove unwanted fat from Alyssa’s arm and tighten the sagging skin, which would result in smooth, well-shaped arms.

Procedure

Dr. Spero Theodorou performed this minimally invasive procedure using the FDA-approved radiofrequency assisted liposuction (RFAL) device – BodyTite, which liquefies fat cells and removes it safely, providing superior skin-tightening effects. BodyTite™ on arms (ArmTite) is a procedure done under local anesthesia and its uniqueness is that it can remove the excess skin under the arms and tighten the skin without leaving any scars. Downtime and side effects are minimal.

Alyssa says she was comfortable during the arm liposuction surgery and did not feel any pain. The surgery didn’t take very long.

Results

Post operation, she was sore for a few days but was able to go back to work and continue with her daily routine quickly after surgery. After the swelling subsided, she was able to see the results, while healing and final results were more of a gradual process. Even one year after the surgery, she says that she feels great.

Alyssa says, “I had a wonderful experience at bodySCULPT® for my liposuction procedure on my arms. Dr. Theodorou made me feel 100% comfortable before, during, and after surgery. He is meticulous with his work and gave me the beautifully sculpted arms that I have always wanted.  I am so happy with my results!”
