Recovery After Brazilian Butt Lift

A well-shaped posterior makes women to look attractive in various outfits, especially their swimsuits. Butt augmentation can be done using implants, but the results may not be natural looking and many women do not want foreign material in their body. Provided by leading NYC plastic surgeons, the Brazilian butt lift is a popular alternative that uses the woman’s own fat for augmentation. It also provides natural looking, longer lasting results. The recovery period is crucial and patients need to follow the plastic surgeon’s instructions for a speedy recovery.

The time for recovery from a Brazilian butt lift is shorter compared to other types of buttock enhancement procedures.

  • As far as possible, avoid sitting on the buttocks for about 3 weeks after surgery
  • Sleeping on the stomach or sides is allowed
  • If sitting on the derriere is necessary, relieve pressure as often as possible
  • Avoiding strenuous physical activity speeds up the recovery process
  • Wearing a compression belt or garment keeps the site lifted and protected
  • As incisions are made on other areas when fat is removed through liposuction, the donor site has to be treated with care, just like the posterior
  • Medications recommended by the surgeon need to be taken as prescribed
  • Taking proper nutritional supplements, proteins, vitamins during the period is recommended
  • Avoid smoking till recovery
  • Taking light walks can minimize swelling and lower the chance of blood clots
  • Keep follow-up appointments and consult the surgeon if anything unusual is noticed

In most cases, patients return to work in a week’s time. Resuming other normal activities could take as long as four weeks. Having the procedure done in an AAAASF-accredited NYC plastic surgery practice is the right choice for optimal results and smooth recovery.

How Effective is the Vanquish Non-Surgical Fat Reduction Treatment?

With a trim figure, Whoopi Goldberg looked awesome at the Academy Awards and she credited Vanquish for her great looks. Most men and women aspire to have a well contoured body but the stubborn fat deposits that don’t go away despite diet and exercise stand in the way of their dreams. There are many effective cosmetic fat reduction procedures, most involving surgery or minimally-invasive modalities. However, the trend of non-invasive body contouring treatment is catching on and the latest in the list is Vanquish – a noncontact, painless option that can help you achieve your fat removal goals easily, safely and effectively.

This new option from BTL Aesthetics is a revolutionary selective RF system designed for deep tissue thermal energy application and proven safe and effective to treat areas such as abdomen and love handles. The radio frequency system delivers energy into the body to eliminate fat cells, never coming in contact with the skin. The surrounding tissue layers are not affected as it selectively targets the layers of stubborn fat. In addition to being a novel, noninvasive approach, the procedure offers the following benefits

  • Painless treatment
  • Non-invasive treatment
  • Safe and effective
  • Quick recovery

Just four weekly 30-minute treatments can help you reduce up to three inches. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following a treatment session.

The device does not touch the body directly and patients feel a just warm sensation similar to a heating pad. Candidates are advised to be well hydrated on the treatment day and days before and after the treatment.

Early data from manufacturer BTL Aesthetics of Framingham, Massachusetts says there were no complaints of nerve pain, and damage to the top and middle layers of skin, hair follicles, muscles, or internal organs. Also, in a study of 25 patients, visible results were seen after initial session, with up to 59 percent of abdominal fat destroyed, resulting in 2 inch waist size reduction after four sessions. As the fat cells are destroyed, the results are long lasting.

Vanquish treatment is a body contouring solution and not a remedy for obesity. The best candidates for the procedure are those with areas of unwanted fat. Due to its non-invasive nature, there is little or no recovery time, which makes the treatment an attractive option compared to surgical liposuction.

Many doctors vouch for the efficacy of the treatment, according to a harpersbazaar report. One researcher calls it “a big technological breakthrough” as unlike other procedure, it can treat a large surface area uniformly and is fast, efficient, and comfortable. Vanquish treatment on people with love handles showed visible results within two weeks and average loss in waist circumference of 2.23 inches after eight weeks.

Tips to Recover Quickly and Safely After Cosmetic Surgery

Undergoing a cosmetic surgery procedure is not a big concern at present as the technology is highly advanced and offers optimal results in a safe and efficient manner. However, there is a lot candidates have to do on their part before and after the procedure in order to achieve attractive aesthetic results and maintain them, and also to ensure a speedy and safe recovery. Whether you are undergoing invasive procedures such as tummy tuck or breast augmentation, minimally invasive procedures such as liposuction or else non-invasive procedures such as Botox, safety considerations are more or less the same for a pleasing treatment experience.

Here are some tips that will help you recover safely after cosmetic surgery.

  • Discuss all your medications with your surgeon so that he can advise you on what to take and what not during the period.
  • Habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption must be avoided at least two weeks before and after the treatment. Even for injections such as Botox or fillers, at least two days of precautions need to be taken.
  • Direct sunlight should be avoided on incision areas and some surgeons would recommend using a high SPF sunscreen.
  • Plenty of rest would be good during the recovery period and ensure that you give special care for the treatment area.
  • If you see anything unusual, meet the surgeon immediately; don’t wait for the follow-up date.
  • For invasive and minimally invasive procedures, avoid straining the area. Keep away from stressful activities and exercises that may give tension to the area, and which would delay the recovery.
  • In the case of procedures such as facelift or nose surgery, apply ice packs as advised by the surgeon.
  • Make the necessary arrangements at home to ensure comfortable recovery.
  • Meet the surgeon diligently on the follow-up dates and follow any additional instructions given.

Keenly follow all the guidelines the surgeon gives and don’t take any risk by handling the surgery lightly. Follow a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise to maintain the results of your cosmetic procedure.

How to Ensure Safe and Speedy Recovery After Mommy Makeover

Women looking to restore their youthful figure after pregnancy can opt for advanced mommy makeover procedures that considerably improve their overall appearance. These cosmetic procedures help restore the youthfulness of the body areas that are most affected during delivery. The main procedures include breast augmentation to shape up the breasts, breast lift to resolve sagginess of the breasts, liposuction to get rid of pockets of fat deposits and contour the body, and tummy tuck to remove the excess skin and fat in the abdomen area.

Let us see some of the major factors women undergoing the surgery need to take into account to ensure a speedy and safe recovery.

  • Women undergoing any of these procedures must take proper care of their body until complete recovery.
  • Instructions regarding medications to be used and not to be used should be strictly followed.
  • Exercises that cause strain to core muscles and abdominal muscles need to be avoided.
  • Avoid lifting weights more than 5 pounds until 3-4 weeks after surgery.
  • Avoid any movements that tighten the abdominal muscles until complete recovery.
  • Light exercises such as short walks in the house are recommended for good blood circulation and to maintain good health.
  • Light day to day activities can be resumed from the third week but start them gradually and increase them as your body tolerates it.
  • Follow a healthy lifestyle with a good diet that keeps you healthy and speeds up the recovery process.
  • Meet your surgeon on the follow-up dates as advised by the surgeon and discuss any issues you face.
  • If anything unusual is witnessed, don’t wait for the follow-up date to meet the surgeon but schedule an immediate appointment.
  • After around 6 weeks, you can get back to normal life and perform any routine activities including regular exercises in most cases. However, consult your surgeon before doing so to make sure that you are healthy enough to do it.

The actual recovery time may vary with each person. It would depend on the person’s body characteristics and what all cosmetic procedures they have undergone earlier. However, the recovery time needed for a mommy makeover is considerably shorter than if you choose to undergo the procedures you want separately.

Is Combining a Neck Lift and Facial Rejuvenation a Good Option?

Neck lift and facial rejuvenation procedures are popular among both men and women as they offer a lot of aesthetic benefits. The face and neck are the areas that are usually exposed in most outfits and this treatment can correct aesthetic concerns related to these parts and make them look attractive. Many surgeons would advise a combination of neck lift and facial rejuvenation as it can bring about a dramatic and positive change in appearance. Neck is one of the first areas of the human body to show signs of aging and a neck lift can help restore the neck’s youthful appearance.

The procedure effectively treats the inelastic, loose skin and hanging platysmal bands of the neck. As a standalone procedure itself, neck lift offers a lot of benefits and with a combined procedure, a more balanced, natural-looking outcome could be achieved. Liposuction, mini facelift and full facelift are the procedures commonly performed in conjunction to provide attractive aesthetic results. Even though these procedures are more common, there are other procedures also which could be performed in combination based on the varying cosmetic concerns of each individual.

A combined facelift and neck lift ensures the following:

  • Tightens and lifts the cheeks and neck
  • Minimizes wrinkles in the lower face and neck region
  • Minimizes jowls and restores angle between the chin and neck
  • Eliminates “turkey neck” and vertical bands in the neck
  • Removes excess fat from the lower face and neck area
  • Tightens lax skin and muscles in the face and neck

Here are some benefits of a combined procedure:

  • A more harmonious look
  • Single time surgical trauma
  • Enjoy the benefits in a single recovery period
  • Restores a youthful appearance

More than convenience and comfort, the end results matter the most when surgeons recommend a combined treatment. These procedures are usually performed to eliminate the signs of aging and when the aging effects are addressed in the entire area, a much more natural-looking appearance is brought about.

Dubai – The New Global Hotspot for Plastic Surgery

Dubai is world’s new plastic surgery hotspot, says a CNN report. The desert city has usurped Lebanon’s position and there are three times more plastic surgeons in Dubai today than there was in 2006, according to the report. Here are some interesting points about this new plastic surgery hub:

  • Fewer of the city’s residents are flying to the U.S. Brazil or Lebanon for a nip-and-tuck
  • According to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), medical tourists made up 8.7% of total health sector revenue in 2012 and many were seeking cosmetic procedures
  • The founder of a leading Dubai plastic surgery consultancy expects the city’s healthcare market to grow 11.4% in two years

One surgeon reported that his waiting room is full from 7 am until midnight!

According to the Emirates Plastic Surgery Society:

  • The UAE has 56 plastic surgeons per one million of the population.
  • The top plastic surgery procedures for women in the UAE are liposuction, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, facial rejuvenation, and abdominoplasty.
  • The top plastic surgery procedures for men in the UAE are breast reduction, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, facial rejuvenation, and abdominoplasty
  • 15% of plastic surgery patients in the UAE are 22 and younger
  • 15% of plastic surgery procedures performed in the UAE are for men

Dubai is among the most multicultural cities in the world with about 200 diverse nationalities, which could have contributed to making it the world’s new plastic surgery hub. The latest statistics also show that like in other countries, it’s not just women who are going in for cosmetic procedures – teenagers and men are part of the crowd too.

Globally, the United States leads with the most number of cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures. One good thing about people in the Western countries, says an expert, is that they usually go in for plastic surgery only as a last resort when options such as diet and exercise prove futile, which is the right thing to do. However, the case is different in the UAE where a person may think of liposuction whenever fat gain is noticed. This could lead to multiple treatments, which is very risky. While having plastic surgery can improve self-esteem and self-confidence, plastic surgeons need to focus on dissuading people from overindulging in these treatments.

Study Reported Low Complication Rates for Combined Liposuction/Tummy Tuck

Liposuction and tummy tuck are popular cosmetic surgery procedures among men and women looking to improve abdominal contour. Used together in one procedure, they can provide great results, according to a study published by an ASPS member surgeon in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery-Global Open®, the official open-access medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

The combined “lipoabdominoplasty” procedure was performed on 150 patients. They first underwent ultrasound lipolysis to remove excess fat from the abdomen and flanks (love handles) and then tummy tuck to remove excess abdominal tissue and loose skin. The outcome was compared to that of 384 liposuction-alone patients and 17 abdominoplasty-alone patients.

The study, based on data over a five-year period noted that:

  • The combined procedure performed to reduce surgical trauma can also provide excellent patient outcomes
  • Lipolysis and abdominoplasty, performed individually or in combination, can be performed safely with appropriate measures to reduce complications by minimizing tissue trauma
  • None of the liposuction candidates developed seromas, which was due to the use of limited ultrasound
  • The rate of seromas after abdominoplasty was low (5 percent)

Using safe preventive measures can help surgeons reduce the risk post-surgical complications such as blood clots.

The combined treatment offers many benefits

  • The best of both procedures
  • More comprehensive results with smoother lines
  • Impressive lower body makeover
  • Less risk of blood loss during surgery
  • Known risks of individual procedures such as development of seromas are minimal

An earlier study by this expert found high patient satisfaction rates and improved self-esteem among patients who underwent the combination procedure. The present study’s results have noted that exceptional cosmetic outcomes could be achieved with a low complication rate when basic measures are taken to reduce risk.

Popularity of Cosmetic Surgery Procedures by Age Group

With advancements in technology and techniques, cosmetic surgery has become more effective and safer, fueling its popularity. Statistics published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) clearly prove this. While individual goals vary widely, it would be interesting to look at the most popular cosmetic surgical treatments by age.

  • Unlike other features which may improve in shape and structure over time, the nose may grow in size proportionate to other facial features, though the aesthetics remain the same. That may be the reason why candidates 13-19 year-old mostly opt for rhinoplasty – surgery to improve the shape and appearance of the nose.
  • Breast augmentation, the procedure that improves the size and shape of breasts is a popular cosmetic treatment among women aged 20-29 years. The breasts would be fully developed by this time. Well-shaped breasts proportionate to the body can make them look better in their clothes and boost their self-confidence.
  • Metabolism begins to slow down by the time men and women enter their 30s. Despite exercise and fat, unwanted fat deposits linger in various areas. That is why liposuction is a popular procedure among those above the age of 30. The treatment can restore body contour by removing the excess fat.
  • Tummy tuck is a popular procedure among people aged 35 plus. Women opt for the treatment following delivery and men to resolve a pot belly.
  • When people enter their 40s, they may see noticeable signs of ageing, especially in the eyes and forehead. Wrinkles would appear and the eyes appear droopy and tired. That’s why many individuals aged 40-54 years go in for eyelid surgery and brow lift to improve facial appearance.
  • Those over 55 years of age would have highly visible ageing signs mostly on face and facial rejuvenation can help. Facelift is the most appropriate treatment. It lifts the corners of the mouth, cheeks, jaw line, and neck.

Regardless of the procedure, timing means a lot. There is an optimum age for every treatment. Cosmetic surgery is effective only if it performed at the right time.

ISAPS Releases 2013 Statistics on Cosmetic Procedures Worldwide

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) is the trusted resource for data on cosmetic surgery procedures worldwide. Its latest statistics published on July 24 reveals that more than 23 million cosmetic procedures were performed worldwide last year. The ISAPS data is based on information collected from 2,700 board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeon members in 95 countries.

One of the main highlights is that for the first ever time in history, Brazil has edged out the United States in terms of the number of surgical procedures performed last year. Interestingly, Botulinum Toxin ranks first in terms of the total number of cosmetic procedures performed in 2013.

Women accounted for more than 20 million cosmetic procedures performed in 2013, up to 87.2% of the total. Men had more than 3 million cosmetic procedures in 2013, which was 12.8% of the total procedures.

The top five countries for cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures performed last year are:

  • United States-3,996,631-(17%)
  • Brazil-2,141,257-(9.1%)
  • Mexico-884,353-(3.8%)
  • Germany-654,115-(2.8%)
  • Spain-447,177-(1.9%)

The list of the top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures at the global level is similar to that for the U.S. in 2013:

  • Breast Augmentation (1,773,584)
  • Liposuction (1,614,031)
  • Blepharoplasty (1,379,263)
  • Lipostructure including lipofilling and stem-enhanced lipofilling (1,053,890)
  • Rhinoplasty (954,423)

The top five non-surgical treatments are

  • Botulinum Toxin (5,145,189)
  • Fillers and Resorbables (3,089,686)
  • Laser Hair Removal (1,440,252)
  • Non-Invasive Facial Rejuvenation (1,307,300)
  • Chemical Peel, CO2 resurfacing, dermabrasion (773,442)

Breast Augmentation, Liposuction, Blepharoplasty, Lipostructure and Breast Lift were the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures among women. Rhinoplasty, Breast Reduction for Gynecomastia, Blepharoplasty, Liposuction and Otoplasty were the top 5 cosmetic surgical procedures for men.

Though the ISAPS statistics were based only on those countries from which a sufficient response was received, they clearly indicate an upward trend in cosmetic surgical procedures at the global level. ISAPS expects that this new data will fuel debates among surgeons gathering to share new techniques and discuss cutting-edge information in the field at its 22nd Biennial Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in September.

Price of Looking Like Kim Kardashian – $30,000

The latest in the list of celebrity-inspired plastic surgeries is a British woman who reportedly spent $30,000 to undergo procedures to look like Kim Kardashian.

According to the report, 24-year-old Clare Leeson wanted to mimic Kim Kardashian after she became obsessed with the reality star. She was also being bullied about her looks and wanted to do something about it. She underwent a number of minor and major cosmetic procedures including breast enhancement surgery and says that she is saving for a rear end implant to resemble her 33-year-old idol.

The Internet is full of stories of men and women who spent thousands of dollars to look like someone they admired. Last year, a woman called Myla Sinanaj is believed to have spent about the same sum as Leeson to get a body that looks like Kim K’s — in the hope that it would launch her career. The procedures she underwent included liposuction, lip injections and implants.

Others in the celebrity lookalike fad bandwagon include Toby Sheldon who spent $100,000 to look like Justin Bieber with hair transplants, lip surgery and liposuction, Donna Marie Trego who spent $120,000 to resemble Lady Gaga, and Kitty who spent $25,000 on six surgeries including liposuction, breast implants, rhinoplasty and fat grafts to look like Jennifer Lawrence.

Cosmetic surgery is now safe, efficient and convenient, and not just the privilege of celebrities. Owing to the increase in the demand, innovative technologies are being developed each year make the procedures simpler, safer, and most important – even more effective and with longer-lasting results.
