Waist-to-hip Ratio determines Ideal Buttock Size, says Study

Waist-to-hip RatioMany celebrities made curvy bottoms popular. While some have a naturally voluptuous backside, more and more women are opting to have procedures such as Brazilian butt lift (BBL) in NYC or butt implant surgery to obtain it. But what is that perfect or ideal derrière and what is the perfect buttock size? According to an online survey of international plastic surgeons and the general public worldwide, a study found that the ideal female buttock size consists of a waist-to-hip ratio between 0.69 and 0.71. The findings of the study were published in the journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

The scientists conducted a survey covering 583 plastic surgeons and 450 members of the public-in 40 countries in order to “enhance a more uniform understanding and approach towards buttock surgery”. The study yielded a waist-to-hip ratio that appears most pleasing across most cultures and geographic locations to define the ideal female buttock size. Up to 39% of the respondents selected 0.7 as the ideal waist-to-hip ratio. The study analyzed significant relationships between sex, age, self-reported ethnicity, plastic surgeons’ country of residence and ethnic background. It was found that individual perceptions and aesthetic preferences are mainly influenced by geographic, ethnic, cultural, and demographic factors. For example, surgeons in Latin America preferred the largest buttock size which is because of the current trend of Brazilian buttock.

Achieving the desired outcomes has become more feasible with the introduction of the Brazilian butt surgery which involves two components- liposuction and fat grafting. Unwanted fat is removed from sites such as the flanks, thighs and abdomen and injected into the buttocks to provide the desired size and shape. The fat is purified and transferred to the buttocks. More work is then done to improve the appearance of lift and contour and to give the butt a rounded perky shape. This procedure is entirely different from butt implant surgery, which uses artificial implants to increase the size and shape of the buttocks. Expert surgeons know how to achieve the right balance between fat removal and addition to provide attractive, outcomes for each patient.

Speaking to Beauty World News in 2015, Dr. Spero Theodorou, one of the New York City’s renowned plastic surgeons, explained that this is the reason why the Brazilian Butt Lift is so popular.

“The reason the butt lift gives such a good shape is because as well as the augmentation of the buttocks, we also remove unwanted fat around the waist and love handles, which accentuates the curves and frames the buttocks better”. The procedure helps you to achieve the look you have dreamt of without diet and exercise. Compared to implants, BBL provides natural looking results as it as it involves adding more fat to the existing fat on your posterior. In addition to providing youthful and aesthetically balanced enhancement, BBL also helps sustain the look. The ideal patient is one who has sufficient excess fat in donor sites.

Though multiple factors impact the aesthetic perception of the buttocks, the survey found that there is a global consensus on the ideal size of the female buttocks based on the waist-to-hip ratio. However, the authors advise plastic surgeons to consider all related factors when discussing desired goals with their patients. This will help in achieving optimal aesthetic outcomes which satisfy both surgeon and patient alike. In fact, in leading AAAASF-accredited practices offering the Brazilian butt lift in NYC, the surgeons evaluate each patient’s anatomical considerations and personal goals and provide the best outcomes.
