The demand for cosmetic surgery procedures is growing among both men and women. Here is some interesting information about these treatments:

  • “Plastic” is derived from the Greek plasikos, meaning “to mold”. The term “surgery” is derived from the Greek kheirourgos, from kheir – “hand” + ergon – “work”.

  • ASPS statistics show that 87% of the total cosmetic surgery procedures performed last year were for women and rest (13%) for men
  • According to ASPS, the region which reported the highest number of cosmetic procedures in the U.S. in 2013 is Mountain/Pacific with 4.3 million procedures
  • Up to 15.1 million cosmetic procedures were performed in 2013, 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures and 13.4 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures, says ASPS
  • Facial rejuvenation procedures showed the most growth in 2013, with Botox injections touching an all-time high of 6.3 million injections
  • According to a Consumer Survey conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), 83 percent of men think that personal appearance plays a role in their professional success and progress. This could be responsible for the rising popularity of cosmetic treatments among men
  • A 2011 International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery survey noted that the United States tops the world in number of plastic surgeons as well as plastic surgeries. It also showed that nearly one-fifth of the world’s plastic surgeons practice in the United States
  • Use of lasers are getting popular among cosmetic procedures making them faster, safer, a lot less painful, and less expensive
  • Not just celebrities or wealthy socialites, but anyone who can save up can have cosmetic procedures
  • Plastic surgeons report that the selfies are inspiring people to have facial rejuvenation procedures

Innovative treatments, including non-invasive procedures are being developed each year to improve the aesthetics concerns of practically any area of the body with improved safety and minimal downtime. It can only be expected that the demand for cosmetic treatments will continue to grow.
