Considering buttock augmentation but concerned about implants? Get the buttocks you’ve always wanted with Brazilian Butt Lift in NYC!

This popular plastic surgery procedure, often called BBL, enhances buttock contour and size using your own fat, eliminating the need for implants. Fat transfer to the buttocks helps women achieve rounder, firmer, and more youth-looking buttocks with minimal discomfort and recovery time.

 Brazilian Butt Lift

What Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Do to your Body?

The Brazilian Butt Lift involves liposuction and fat transfer. Fat is removed from body areas where it is abundant, processed, and injected into the buttocks to enhance volume and contour. It is often called a “dual-benefit” body contouring treatment because it enhances the buttocks while simultaneously improving the shape of other areas from which excess fat is removed.

Curious about what a Brazilian Butt Lift does to your body? Here are the benefits you can expect:

  • Enhances butt size and shape using your own fat
  • Creates a firmer, lifted derriere
  • Provides more natural looking results than implants
  • Slims and sculpts the fat donor sites
  • Gives the body a more balanced, sculpted look
  • Boosts self-image and confidence

Brazilian Butt Lift vs Butt Implants

BBL offers specific advantages over implants. Butt implant surgery involves placing silicone implants under or above the gluteal muscles to add volume and contour. BBL uses your own fat, resulting in a natural look and feel. Implants are typically used for those who do not have enough body fat for a BBL.

Compared to butt implants which require large incisions resulting in visible scars, BBL involves only small incisions, injection points, and minimal scarring.

Recovery may take longer with implant placement, and risks include implant shifting, infection, or capsular contracture. Recovery after BBL basically involves avoiding sitting directly on your buttocks for about 2–3 weeks.

How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?

BBL begins with liposuction to extract fat from areas where it’s available in excess. Typical areas for fat harvesting are the armpit, the mid back or bra rolls, flanks or love handles, outer thighs, inner thighs, and abdomen. NYC surgeons use minimally-invasive liposuction techniques like Smartlipo and VASER, which are gentle and cause minimal damage to the surrounding tissues.

The fat is then purified and processed, and carefully injected into the buttocks to provide a rounder, perkier look.

What happens to that fat after it is injected depends on your body’s natural healing process. Usually, about 60–80% of the transferred fat survives and establishes a new blood supply. The rest of the fat is naturally reabsorbed by the body in the first few months. The fat cells that successfully connect to your blood supply will remain in place and act like normal fat cells – growing or shrinking slightly if your weight changes.

Initially, your buttocks might look larger due to swelling and extra fat, but the size will decrease slightly as your body heals. The final shape and size usually stabilize after about 3–6 months, once your body fully adjusts and the surviving fat has settled.

Brazilian butt lift under local anesthesia (BBLULA) is a relatively short procedure performed using local anesthesia, meaning patients remain awake. Invented by bodySCULPT’s leading NYC plastic surgeons, Dr. Spero Theodorou and Christopher Chia, BBLULA is a safer alternative to the traditional fat transfer buttock augmentation that uses general anesthesia. BBLULA comes with benefits such as little or no discomfort, no hospital stay, improved safety, and more.

The right candidate for a BBL procedure is a person who is in good general health with a stable weight, and is at least 21 years old. They need to have the appropriate body type to harvest enough fat. The procedure is not recommended for those who smoke.

If you’re thinking about getting cosmetic surgery for buttocks, talking to an experienced surgeon is important to learn if you are a good candidate. An expert will help you understand the risks, side effects, what the recovery is really like, and how to get the best possible results.
