Top Skin Care Tips to Retain that Youthful Glow

Skin Care TipsWhile beauty, as the saying goes, may be only skin-deep, caring for your skin goes much deeper. The skin is an important organ of the body. As we age, our skin loses it moisture content and becomes thinner. Keeping your skin beautiful, fresh and glowing needs special care and here are some tips to help.

  • Make sure you eat right. Processed foods, starches and sugary stuff can cause blemishes and acne. So replace these with nutrient-rich foods like fruit, vegetables and foods high in skin-strengthening Omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Staying hydrated is important for a healthy skin. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, which will flush out toxins from the body and give you a clearer complexion.
  • Remove your makeup before you go to bed. Sleeping with makeup on clogs the pores and prevents the skin from breathing. So wash and clean your face thoroughly before you go to bed. And another thing about makeup – don’t work out with make up on.
  • Don’t neglect your neck and upper chest as these areas are an extension of your face. The delicate skin of the neck tends to wrinkle and age faster. Using good quality cleansing and moisturizing creams to suit the season can help postpone and reduce the telltale signs of aging in these areas. Other areas that need good skin care are your hands and feet.
  • Exfoliating the skin will remove dead cells, cleanse the pores, improve blood circulation, and give your skin a healthy, youthful glow.
  • Keep your hands off your face. Bacteria, viruses and allergens are on many things we touch and handle in our daily routine. Touching your face frequently would transfer these from your hands onto the skin.
  • Don’t forget the golden rule – wear sunscreen when you’re out in the sun.
  • Quit smoking. This skin enemy will make your skin age prematurely, say experts.

Long showers can be relaxing but will rob the skin of its moisture and wash away protective oils. Experts advise limited showers to 10 minutes. If you do have a long shower, take care to moisturize properly.
