Tips for Healthy, Glowing Skin in Summer

Tips for Glowing SkinSun exposure is necessary for the body because sun rays are the richest source of Vitamin D that helps in the absorption of calcium for stronger and healthier bones. But that doesn’t mean that you should overexpose your body to the sun’s UV rays. Over exposure can damage your skin and lead to serious health problems like cancer. To stay fresh all along the day and maintain healthy, glowing skin, take the following precautions:

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Proper hydration can flush out the toxins from your body. You can have healthy fluids, juices and water, but avoid colas and fizzy sodas as they may contain artificial sugars which can cause skin aging. Health authorities recommend drinking 8 ounce glasses of water or two liters of water every day.
  • Use non-toxic sunscreen while going out: Sunscreen will protect you from tanning. The sun’s burning rays are extremely powerful that it could darken your skin colour. You should choose sunscreen with the appropriate SPF number to protect your skin from tanning.
  • Say no to tanning beds: Tanning beds are no longer safer as they are linked to cancer. If you want summer skin, then opt for self-tanning towels and lotions.
  • Exfoliate and moisturize your skin: Exfoliate your skin at least twice a week. This can help to get rid of dead cells which make your skin look rough and dry. Natural exfoliators like fruit scrub are best. Moisturize your skin properly with a good quality moisturizer or use a lotion that contains aloe vera gel. This will help keep your skin hydrated and soothe any discomfort.
  • Use minimal makeup: Use minimal makeup in the summer. If you do use makeup, try to use a waterproof product. Keep makeup brushes clean to avoid microbial growth and simultaneous manifestation on your skin.
  • Wear sun glasses: Wearing UV-blocking sunglasses is a good practice to protect your eyes and surrounding skin. Besides providing protection from dust, sun glasses will ensure good visibility on a bright, sunny day.
  • Sleep well: Don’t skip sleep. Lack of sleep can lead to increased levels of stress hormones that slow the production of collagen.

Avoid being out in the sun between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the UV rays are strongest. Going by the above tips can make your skin look and feel better.
